| Essence of Agape | 2/11/2006 |
| by Deacon Evan Wittig | Printer Friendly | Agape love
Is true love of the other,
Thinking of the other person,
Wanting the best for the other,
Putting the needs of another person ahead of your own,
Putting the feelings and consideration of another ahead of your own,
Being patient with the one you love.
We must be true to ourselves.
We must be the people God created us to be.
Part of being true to ourselves is to be
Thoughtful, loving, kind, merciful, compassionate
About another person.
We start with one
And learn how to love others
As much as we love ourselves.
Love listens and pays attention to the other person.
If they hurt, you hurt. If they rejoice, you rejoice.
Love shares in the life and death of others.
We are to love God first.
And let God teach us the essence of agape.
To study the nature of God is to study the nature of agape love.
Love creates and is a dynamic movement.
Love is full of life and life is full of love.
Love obeys and seeks God’s Will first in all things.
Love forgives and doesn’t count the
Offenses of the other person.
Love is self-sacrificing.
Love makes itself little, in order to build others up.
Love seeks God in the other person
And rejoices when God is found.
Love never lies, cheats, steals or lusts.
Love is not proud or boastful.
Love is not full of itself.
Love empties itself upon the other.
Love is chaste and kind.
Love rejoices in creation with pure eyes.
Love sees the beauty of creation
And every person on this earth.
Love is of God because God is Love. |
